Captain of the Bush

An original song written by Katie Cummins

Captain of the bush, when will you return home?
Your lady awaits, and how much she has grown
A Plumage to bury your face deep at night
And oh how your lady has missed such delights

You met among brambles and bracken and moss
One look into her dazzling eyes you were lost
A cartographer of her body you became
Learning of mountains, of valleys, and caves
She’d sigh out your name like the coo of a dove
Two penniless girls in the throes of deep love
Searching for coin the sea waves sung “BEHOLD
I’ll reward you with tea leaves, with sugar, with gold.”

Dressed as a lad you escaped to the sea
Promising treasures for your dear lady
But the waves they have kept you far long overdue
Your lady left dreaming of all you can do
The sailors did warn you of sirens so sweet
Luring the men faltered you stayed on the ship
With memories of soft skin, her lips and her hips

Coffers now fuller, at what sinking cost
You yearn for your lady before she is lost
Moons come and go with the pull of the tides
The horizon, it beckons with teasing delights
Before you can even be free of the sands
Your lady, she grabs you, with firm hungry hands
With vigour and vibrance she hikes up her skirts
At last to the bush our captain has returned
